Soperton Commentary...Blake Dennard

Blake Dennard is also a native of Treutlen County. His father bought a drugstore in town in the Seventies and has since expanded his business, opening a hardware store as well. After graduating from pharmacy school, the young Mr. Dennard and his family first lived in Athens and Dublin before he returned to Soperton to join his father in the family business. "I wanted to raise my children in a small town," he said. "I like the school system. I think they do a good job. I like the small classes." Dennard cited the example of students in the early grades having both a teacher and a paraprofessional assigned to even the smallest of classes. Dennard, too, said he considers the people of Treutlen to be its greatest asset, but another asset of the county is its location. "³Itıs a great place to work and live. We're not far away from anything," he said. Treutlen County lies within two hours of both Macon and Savannah. Atlanta is less than three hours away. Both beaches and mountains are close enough for weekend getaways. The cities of Vidalia, Dublin, and Swainsboro can be reached within 30 minutes--the amount of time one might expend in reaching a destination across the span of a larger city. And rarely does one encounter a traffic jam along the way.
