is the single highest valued crop produced in the
United States, exceeding even corn and wheat.
Forestry is a $16.0
billion dollar industry in Georgia. One out of every
5 workers in Atlanta is employed by forestry-related
industries. Forestry creates 144,00 jobs directly
and indirectly statewide.
About 63% of the total
acreage in Georgia is forest land. Trees are Georgia's
most valuable and abundant resource. Over half of
Georgia is forested and the individuals own 68%
of it. Georgia has 751,791 acres of national forests
and 487,362 acres of forest in preserve.
