Timber is the highest valued crop in Georgia followed by peanuts, tobacco, and cotton. Nationally timber is the single highest valued crop produced in the United States, exceeding even corn and wheat.

Forestry is a $16.0 billion dollar industry in Georgia. One out of every 5 workers in Atlanta is employed by forestry-related industries. Forestry creates 144,00 jobs directly and indirectly statewide.

About 63% of the total acreage in Georgia is forest land. Trees are Georgia's most valuable and abundant resource. Over half of Georgia is forested and the individuals own 68% of it. Georgia has 751,791 acres of national forests and 487,362 acres of forest in preserve.
