Georgia's
annual forest industry output has grown to $16.0
billion dollars, $2.8 billion or 21 percent greater
than a year ago. This output resulted from economic
processes adding $7.1 billion in value to Georgia's
economy, $1.2 billion more than the value added
by the forest industry a year ago. Georgia's forest
economy directly employs 75,000 persons, while another
69,000 are employed in industries supporting forest
product manufacturing, for a total of 144,000.
Georgia's forests contribute
to the quality of life for all citizens by helping
provide clean air and water, recreational benefits,
and serving as a carbon sink by fixing carbon dioxide
from the atmosphere.
