The
year was 1926, when James Fowler, a far-sighted
farmer businessman from Soperton, Georgia planted
his first ten acres of the seedlings, later becoming
a leader in the reforestation movement. During the
course of his lifetime, Fowler would plant 7,000,000
slash pine seedlings on some 10,000 acres of Treutlen
County farm land. Prior to his death in 1963, Fowler
received numerous honors for his vision and faith
in the potential of the Southern pine.
